What this site is
Roll roofing looks simple: unroll it, nail it, done. In practice the slope, the layers underneath and the maker’s rules decide whether it lasts or leaks, and store listings rarely explain any of that. We built this site to be the reference we wanted: which roll suits which roof, drawings of how the layers fit, and plain instructions built from the makers’ own documents.
How we choose
We have not tested these products ourselves. Nothing on this site claims hands-on testing, lab results or scores of our own. Instead:
- Installation rules come from the makers. Slope limits, laps, nailing and temperatures come from instructions and data sheets published by makers such as GAF, TAMKO, CertainTeed and Polyglass.
- Code numbers come from code references. The roll roofing slope minimum and the ice barrier rule are linked to code handouts and to Fine Homebuilding. Local codes vary and change, and we say so.
- Maker claims are labeled as claims. When a maker says a membrane lasts a certain time or installs a certain way, we say the maker says so.
- Cost and life numbers are labeled as estimates. Published figures conflict. We name the source and show the range.
- We recommend types, then show current listings. Shop buttons are searches for the right type of product, not one item we vouch for. Check the listing’s specs and the wrapper before you buy.
- No scores, no star ratings, no prices. Prices change daily and we have no test data to score with.
How the site earns
Some links go to Amazon with our affiliate tag. If you buy, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That never decides what we recommend. Details are on the affiliate disclosure page.
Safety
Falls from ladders and roofs cause serious injuries. Our install guides carry a safety note, and we point you to a licensed roofer when the job is high, steep or large.
Corrections
Product lines, instructions and codes change. We review pages regularly and each page shows when it was last reviewed.
Who we are
