Short answer
Pick the roll type first, then the brand. GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, TAMKO and IKO all make asphalt roofing rolls and underlayments; GAF and CertainTeed also sell self-adhered low slope systems, and Polyglass is known for modified bitumen membranes and self-adhered underlayments. Whatever the brand, read that product’s wrapper for its slope limit and install rules, because they differ even between products from the same maker.

Roofing roll makers and their product families

| Owens Corning | Mineral surfaced roll roofing (fiberglass mat) | WeatherLock ice and water barrier family | Maker data sheets |
| CertainTeed | Flintlastic SA self-adhered SBS system, including the SA Cap | WinterGuard waterproofing underlayment | CertainTeed |
| TAMKO | Mineral surface roll roofing and a 19 inch selvedge roll | Moisture Guard ice and rain underlayment | TAMKO data sheet |

Same brand, different rules
Two rolls from one maker can have different slope limits. TAMKO’s fiberglass slate surface roll may not go below 2 inches per foot (TAMKO instructions), while its 19 inch selvedge roll is listed for inclines down to 1 inch per foot (TAMKO data sheet). GAF’s Mineral Guard instructions ask for at least 2 inches per foot (GAF), while GAF documents list its self-adhered Liberty system for low slope areas (GAF Liberty). The product, not the brand, sets the rule.
What to compare between brands
- Slope range on the wrapper or data sheet.
- Coverage per roll after laps, which changes how many rolls you buy.
- Warranty terms, including whether they require the maker’s underlayment or a certified installer.
- Application temperature and storage rules if you are roofing in cool weather.
- Fire rating if your code or insurer asks for one.
- Local availability. Rolls are heavy; what your nearby store carries often decides it.

Questions people ask
What is the best brand of roll roofing?
We have not tested rolls, so we do not rank brands. The bigger difference is between roll types and between products: a self-adhered system and a mineral surface roll from the same maker behave very differently. Choose the type for your slope, then compare the specs and warranty of what your local store stocks.
Does it matter if I mix brands?
For a system such as a base sheet and cap sheet, or for a warranty that covers several layers, yes: makers usually require their own components together. For underlayment under a simple shed roof it matters less, but follow the roofing maker’s instructions.
Who makes EPDM rubber roofing?
Commercial EPDM makers include Elevate (the former Firestone Building Products) and Carlisle. Retail and RV kits are also sold under many smaller brands. Check the thickness and what accessories the kit includes.
Is Malarkey roll roofing available?
Malarkey is a roofing maker known for shingles and also publishes instructions for low slope roll products such as its cap sheets. Availability varies by region; check local suppliers.
